A 20-bed tourist complex with all modern amenities has been set up here. Indian Airlines operate flight to Agatti making it one of the most accessible islands in Lakshadweep.
Agatti Airport (IATA: AGX), also known as Agatti Aerodrome, is your gateway to paradise. Nestled on the southern tip of Agatti Island, it’s the sole airstrip serving the Lakshadweep archipelago. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:
Limited Traffic and Single Terminal:
Get ready for a relaxed airport experience. Agatti Airport caters to a limited number of flights, ensuring a less crowded atmosphere compared to major airports. The airport boasts a single terminal building that efficiently handles both domestic and international arrivals and departures. The terminal can comfortably accommodate up to 50 passengers during peak hours.
The airport features a single asphalt runway, measuring 1291 meters long and 30 meters wide. This can accommodate smaller aircraft, typically turboprop planes, perfectly suited for regional travel. Don’t expect extensive shopping options or fancy restaurants. The focus here is on functionality, providing essential amenities for a smooth travel experience.
Scenic Landing and Connectivity:
As you descend for landing, prepare to be mesmerized by breathtaking views of the turquoise Lakshadweep Sea and the lush greenery of Agatti Island.
Eastern Jetty (Main Jetty):
This is the primary jetty on Agatti Island and is also known as the Boat Jetty.
It handles most passenger arrivals and departures, with ferries shuttling tourists and islanders between Agatti and mainland India.
If you’re arriving by ferry, there’s a high chance you’ll disembark here.
The Eastern Jetty is known for its bustling atmosphere, especially during peak tourist season.
This jetty caters more towards local fishermen and cargo movement.
It offers a quieter and less crowded ambience compared to the Eastern Jetty.
While passenger ferries might occasionally utilize the Western Jetty, it’s not the main entry point for tourists.
If you’re looking for a glimpse into the local fishing activity and a more serene atmosphere, the Western Jetty might be worth a visit.
